Euthanasia

Sadly the time may come for us to make difficult decisions when we feel our pets no longer have a good quality of life.

We offer a professional, personal service where you will be able to spend time with your much loved pet, either in your own home where possible, or at the surgery in a quiet and comfortable room, with the support of our fully trained staff

People that have never experienced euthanasia of a pet before often wonder what is involved, we would like to guide you through the procedure so if you do have to make the decision you will know what to expect

How euthanasia is carried out;

The vet will use an high dose of anaesthetic injected into the vein in the front leg, which will put your animal to ‘sleep’. After a few seconds the heart will stop beating and breathing will cease. A short while after you may notice a few ‘gasps’ from your pet , this is perfectly normal and just a result of the muscles of the diaphragm relaxing, so please do not be alarmed. Your pet will feel no pain and will be comforted by the presence of their owner or one of our dedicated, caring nurses

You will be able to spend as much time as you require with your animal afterwards, it is important to us that you do not feel rushed.

If you require a home visit for euthanasia please telephone the surgery as early as possible to make arrangements, we do our best to accommodate our clients as quickly as possible in these circumstances

Cremation

At Miramar Vets we have used the local Crematoria at Beeston Regis ‘Abbey Pets’ for the last 15 years, we have complete confidence in their personal service, caring manner and sympathetic nature

They offer a wide range of services including individual cremation with choices on caskets,  a beautiful remembrance garden where ashes may be scattered and they are always on hand to help and advise you.
